I am a strong believer in giving back to the community. Supporting your neighbors, co-workers, community, and those in need really just seems like the reason we’re all here in the first place. It’s because of this belief that I’m very proud of where I work. Our company culture is all about going above and beyond and helping others.
We believe nonprofits play an important role in our communities.
Nonprofit leaders have always been invited to serve on First Business’s board and advisory boards. The bank established a genius golf invitational that leverages the competitive nature of local business leaders and channels it (and the purse) to fund local charities of the leaders’ choice. It’s a win-win: local businesses get bragging rights and local charities benefit financially —more than $300,000 in the history of the event so far.
We value community volunteering.
First Business recognizes the value in encouraging employees to volunteer. Along with the obvious benefits to our communities, studies show that when businesses encourage employees to engage in causes important to them, the employees feel a greater sense of loyalty and satisfaction in their jobs.
Sometimes it’s difficult to schedule time to dive in to a cause you care about, and that’s where First Business goes the extra step. Employees here are empowered to flex their work time to volunteer. As a result, we’re active in a multitude of important, local causes taking every shape and form through fundraising, awareness campaigns, and leading boards of directors.
We’ve created educational and networking opportunities for nonprofit leaders.
First Business has developed opportunities for executive directors, board members, and business development managers of community organizations to learn and grow. These community, nonprofit-focused events include small-group, focused discussions led by board members, to a large, statewide event in Wisconsin called Enterprising NONPROFITS. I’m also excited to say we’re working on a nonprofit-focused event here in Kansas for the first quarter of 2019.
It’s not accidental that I work for a company that believes in giving back to the community. I really believe nonprofits and for-profit businesses have a lot to learn from one another and I’m excited to see what will come from our relationships down the road.
